Silent APK Installation in Urmobo
Starting from version 10.0, Urmobo introduces the possibility of installing APKs silently, without any user interaction with the installer.
Simply upload the application through the platform, and it will be automatically installed on the devices.
This article shows you the step-by-step process to configure and use this functionality.
Step 1 – Upload the APK file
📌 Important: Application fingerprint
The new feature requires collecting the SHA-256 Fingerprint of the Signing Certificate.
This information is automatically identified by Urmobo when uploading the application.
⚠️ Attention: applications uploaded to the portal before 09/01/2025 do not have this fingerprint registered. In this case, it is necessary to perform a new upload so that the system collects the information correctly.
How to do it:
Go to Side menu > Applications > Add.
Upload the application.
Confirm that the field “SHA-256 Fingerprint of the Signing Certificate” was automatically filled in (see illustration).
Step 2 – Adding the APK package to the policy
📌 Important: Installation type “Custom (APK)”
Previously, the installation type “Available” was used for catalog applications.
Now, for silent installation, it is necessary to configure it as “Custom (APK)”.
⚠️ Attention: packages already existing in policies cannot just be edited. You must delete the package and add it again to ensure the fingerprint is properly recognized.
How to do it:
Go to Side menu > Management > Policies.
Click on the name of the policy you want to edit.
In the Applications tab, add the APK package name in the “Application” field.
Change the installation type to “Custom (APK)”.
Click Add (see illustration).
Step 3 – Sending the APK for silent installation
With the previous steps completed, you can now send the application for silent installation.
How to do it:
Go to Side menu > Applications.
Next to the Add button, click the three dots > Deliver Application.
Follow the three steps of the wizard:
Step 1: select the devices, entities, or groups that will receive the app.
Step 2: choose the applications to be delivered.
Step 3: review the information and click Send.
That’s it ✅. The selected devices will automatically receive the application, and the installation will be completed silently, without user intervention.
